Increasing parking capacity in South Woodford

We know that parking in South Woodford is coming under increasing pressure, with growing car ownership. One objective of the current review of South Woodford’s permit parking scheme area is to identify opportunities to create extra parking spaces by removing stretches of yellow line.

Below are some suggestions that we’ve asked the Council’s Highways officers to look at, to see if the yellow lines can safely be removed.

The second phase of the consultation, asking everyone within the permit zone for your views about the days and times of operation of the scheme, will get underway very shortly.

The results of the first phase have now been considered by the local Area Committee. Residents in Lincoln Road, Radley’s Lane, and a small part of Cadogan Gardens at the existing zone boundary supported joining the scheme, with the remaining roads surveyed (including Onslow Gardens, Charnwood Drive, Crescent & Waverley Roads, and Hurstwood & Monmouth Avenues) having clear majorities against joining.

The two site which would be 100% NO, to changes would be (1) George Lane o/s of the Methodist Church because this area should be increased to DYLs to allow a passing place for buses, and to prevent the road locking up, which is a fequent occurance. This was reviewed when I was the traffic management police officer representing LB Redbridge, but was never implemented. (2) Pultney Road / George Lane. For the same reason as above, to maintain a passing point. During the PM rush hour, residents entering Pultney Road from George Lane have difficulty in geting past this first section of the road due to the rat running traffic coming from Hermon Hill. To remove this SYL would cause problems of tailing back into George Lane, and the risk of locking up the one-way system.
