Roding Councillor Gwyneth Deakins has secured compensation for residents of Elizabeth Court, on the Orchard Estate, for a breakdown in their water supply over Christmas.
Residents of the block had an unhappy Christmas when a power surge knocked out the water pump in the block early on Christmas Day. It was not until early on 27 December that supplies were restored – despite sterling work by Council officers, a spare part could not be obtained until then. This wasn’t the Council’s fault – their contractor should have been able to supply the part but a communication breakdown meant they did not do so.
Cllr Deakins immediately asked the Council to give compensation to the residents and has been told that each household will receive £100.
We expect this to be confirmed by the Cabinet member for Housing at the Council meeting this week, in answer to a Question from Cllr Deakins.
Meanwhile the Council will be seeking compensation from the contractor!Leave a comment
